Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
In 1972, Audemars Piguet did the unthinkable: it sold a stainless-steel watch for the price of gold. The Royal Oak — sketched overnight by the legendary Gérald Genta and named after a line of Royal Navy warships — broke every rule of luxury watchmaking. Its octagonal bezel, secured by eight hexagonal screws, and a bracelet that flows seamlessly from the case turned an industrial idea into high art.
Half a century later it remains the watch that invented the luxury-sports category. This 41mm reference, with its hypnotic black ‘Grande Tapisserie’ dial, is the Royal Oak in its purest and most wearable form — an icon that still feels utterly modern.
